Description: This website allows for you to create a group at which time you will receive a group code to share with students and their parents. Everyone must create an account and then they can communicate with others in the class. The teachers serve as the moderator on this site. Students can post questions to the whole group and each member of the class can respond to the questions. If the comments are inappropriate the teacher can restrict the students acesss to the discussion. Students can also be divided into smaller groups to allow for group projects and small group instruction. I have used this during snow storms to continue class discussions and to have gallery walks for student projects that can be posted as attachments. Students were required to respond to their classmates posts. I have used it as a virtual coach class before assessments to allow for students to ask questions and benefit from the discussion even if they login later. Edmodo also offers a professional learning community where you can post questions to different groups and benefit from those who share your interests. Many of my students have stated that Edmodo looks a lot like FaceBook in its features. Teachers can also send alerts that can be received by parents and students on an app on a mobile device. Parents login with codes that are aligned with their child’s account so they don’t have access to other students.
