I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. I attended Beechfield Elementary in Baltimore City, Chadwick Elementary and Johnnycake Middle School (now Southwest Academy) in Baltimore County, and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore City, where I completed an Advanced Concentration in Science. I currently live in Baltimore County, MD with my husband and daughter.
Early on I knew I wanted to pursue a career in science. I attended a high school that had science or engineering options and of course I selected the Science Option. I always thought I would be a doctor. My high school principal even called me "Dr. Palmer." While attending the University of Maryland College Park where majored in BS in Cell & Molecular Biology/ Genetics, I decided to pursue a career as a Scientist. I have worked as a Scientist in Biomedical and Biotechnology laboratories for 8 years before becoming a science teacher. I taught science for 8 years before taking the position of Magnet Coordinator.
As Magnet Coordinator, I have decided to pursue a Masters degree in Instructional Technology to enhance my efforts to build a health science magnet program that is responsive to the needs of students. By taking courses in Instructional Technology, I will be able to prepare my students to be college and career ready. The more exposure the better equipped they will be to learn and contribute in this ever changing world.
