Hello Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Science 6GT/AA!
My name is Mrs. L. Brown and I am pleased to be your child’s science teacher at Northwest Academy of Health Sciences. I look forward to working closely with you and your child in order to help him/her achieve academic success. I have high expectations for all of my students, and I believe that they are all capable of mastering this year’s science content.
All 6th grade students will be building an important foundation this year and hopefully a love of science as well. When your child reaches 8th grade there will be a cumulative assessment on material from 6th through 8th grade and it is essential that they succeed in this course in order to achieve proficient or advanced on this state test. Doing so will prepare them for high school and college success. If you ever have any questions throughout the term, please feel free to contact me at any time!

This year, I have established a set of classroom rules in order to foster a culture of achievement:
1. Listen to instructions
2. Enter and exit the classroom prepared
3. Always try your best
4. Respect yourself and others
5. No excuses!
In the event that a student breaks one or more of these rules, the student will be given a verbal warning and a chance to correct the negative behavior. If the student continues to behave inappropriately and disrupt the learning environment, follow-up consequences will be distributed and the event will be documented. The consequences for continued negative behavior may include a loss of classroom privileges, seat change, detention after school, phone call home, and isolation from the classroom. Extreme misbehavior will result in an immediate referral to the leadership team.
I have high expectations of myself as well, and I make the following pledge to you and to your child: As your child’s teacher, I will always be respectful, on time, and prepared.
I am also asking that all students bring the following supplies by Tuesday September 6th. This will be counted as a homework assignment.
* 2 packs of loose-leaf notebook paper.
* One pack of pencils and pens
* 2 glue sticks
Students will be responsible for having their pencils and science notebooks each time they come to class. If a student loses their notebook or does not have a pencil or pen, it is up to them to replace the lost items, and will lose points if their work cannot be completed during class. I will provide your student with a science notebook folder for quarter one.
Thank you for reading this letter and discussing it with your child. Please complete the Parent/Guardian survey. I appreciate you taking the time to share some details with me. This information will help me be the best teacher I can be for your child. Returning this survey by Tuesday, August 30th will be counted towards a class competition.
Respectfully,
Mrs. L. Brown
